Download Office 2010 32-bit or 64-bit Editions?
The Microsoft Office 2010 is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Don’t worry, this site provides the link to download Office 2010 in both 32/64-bit. Some of you may confuse and don’t know the different between them.
Actually, both of them are similar. The 32-bit version of Office 2010 provides the same functionality and is also compatible with 32-bit add-ins. This is why Office 2010 will install the 32-bit version by default.
The major advantage of 64-bit version of Office 2010 is that it enables you to work with much larger sets of data. This need is especially true when working with large numbers in Microsoft Excel 2010, i.e. spreadsheets that are larger than 2 GB.
The computer processors that running on 64-bit systems can use more virtual and physical memory than 32-bit processors. This lets users work with much larger data sets than they could previously, to analyze and solve large computational problems.
So, which edition you prefer to use? Here are the recommendations:
- If users in your organization or individual depend on existing extensions to Office, such as ActiveX controls, third-party add-ins, or in-house solutions built on previous versions of Office, I recommend that you install 32-bit Office 2010 (the default installation) on computers that are running both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating system.
- If some users in your organization or individual are Excel expert users who work with Excel spreadsheets that are larger than 2 gigabytes (GB), they can install the 64-bit edition of Office 2010. In addition, if you have in-house solution developers, we recommend that those developers have access to the 64-bit edition so that they can test and update your in-house solutions on the 64-bit edition of Office 2010.
Note: In a default installation of Office 2010, the 32-bit version is installed, even on 64-bit systems. You must explicitly select the Office 2010 64-bit version installation option.
